Head to toe in High Street

I buy and wear a lot of High Street, but I tend to mix it in with designer pieces that give the overall look a more expensive feel. I often wear a high street dress with a pair of designer shoes or a great coat with a an expensive bag, it's how I like (and can afford) to dress and I actually find it more fun. Over the years I found some great pieces from the likes of New Look, Top Shop and French Connection that I still love and covet today, some of which I'm wearing today. My New Look blazer was a total gem that I bought at least three years ago, when I wore it in the office for the first time everyone thought is was Etoile and went out to buy one. Same thing goes for my Top Shop fringed boots, I recently spotted them on a very stylish Net a Porter employee that said she bought them after seeing them on WIT. Come back tomorrow to see a special post dedicated to the great British High Street with some of my favourite buys available now but that you will love forever.

Double denim + fabulous accessories

Today I'm dressing up a double denim look with a touch of red and a sprinkle of leopard. I'm a huge believer that if you invest in good accessories dressing up in the morning becomes so much easier. Try it for yourself tomorrow - a fab pair of shoes and a designer bag can literally transform your jeans, your white shirt, your pea coat and your little black dress. And with a quick swap over (a tote for a clutch and a pair of heels instead of flats) they can bring you from day to night in an instant. Don't forget your lipstick - today it's Heat Wave from Nars.

Scrapbook from last night: FNO with L.K. Bennett

My first Vogue Fashion Night Out was such fun! We had a great time at the Brook Street L.K.Bennett store sipping on champagne, eating delicious canapes, having our nails done and snapping away for our Instagram gallery whislt we shopped my favourite items from the current collection. I wore a little red frock (Diane dress £325), black patent T-bar sandals (Anya shoes £225) and (in case you ask) Nars Cruella lipstick and Wicked Essie polish. Here's a little photo account from the evening!

And at the end of the night I picked the winner of the L.K. Bennett capsule wardrobe prize... Congratulations!

WIT mama Friday: Scrap book from Greta's glitter and neon birthday party

Here's a little scrap book from Greta's birthday party. This year the theme was pink and neon and whilst last year it was also kind of mine and my husband party too (we had both made it through the first year of parenthood!), this year it was only Greta's and her little friends.

We had all her favourite foods (to be eaten in  no particular order: ice creams, olives, cup cakes, pizza, cookies and milk, pop corn and cheese sandwiches), and her favourite Gymboree teacher came over to play a special lesson for two year olds that involved Greta's current obsession (and the soundtrack to our home): Nemo.

I am not a cook or a baker so I bought everything from Waitrose and made everything look super pretty (I especially loved my milk and cookies bottles!). The party bags on the other hand were something I really enjoyed making, I brought back mini baskets from Tunisia and filled them with lots of goodies like  ELC neon mini pots of play doh for the boys and wash off nail polish for the girls from Little BU

Greta wore a floral dress that her godmother gave her, Crew Cuts neon hair clip (plus a gold glitter crown headband from Hennies during her birthday cake) and Marks and Spencer glitter lace up shoes... I got emotional like every birthday and shed a tear (or two) at cake time...

See the post earlier this week to see where I bought all bits and bobs

THE Boden jewelled flats that we've all been waiting for are in store!

I've been waiting for this moment for months, I remember Instagramming these fabulous jewelled pumps in May at the Boden press day and thinking they were amongst the best thing I saw at all press days. Well, finally they are on line (in very low quantity I hear) and ready to be bought. Despite being in bed with the flu and feeling absolutely terrible my delivery this morning instantly made me feel much better!

They come in black, navy and gold and after much debating I decided to opt for black (I was also tempted by gold...) but I thought that I will wear them equally well with jeans and a jumper or a little black dress in party season. Which one will you go for?

The making of Greta's birthday party

I could have so spared myself the extra work involved in organising a children's birthday party (especially since I'm working night and day at the launch of my new project), but those of you who know me know that I certainly like to make the most of every minute in my day and that I don't do things with half measures, so two months ago I embarked in project GZ turns two.

It all started with a Pinterest board of my vision of Greta's second birthday, last year the theme was the circus so lots of red and animals (you can see a post here) but this year I wanted to go to town with the girlieness, so I decided on "Glitter and Neon".

Marks and Spencer glitter shoes

The inspiration came from this birthday cake and from a beautiful linen and neon turquoise table cloth that a friend of mine gave me for my birthday. I wanted to use both and that was the start of it.

For the invitations I actually managed to a make my life simple and opted for Paperless Post. You can chooses from hundreds of different invitation and custom them to make them really your own (there is also an option to print them if you want to). I decided on this invite to tie into the neon theme.

Then came the details. On my shopping list were clear balloons, turquoise paper cups and plates, wooden cutlery and gold gold glitter tape. I got most things from Amazon that is often reasonably priced (I can't bring myself to spend lots of money on paper cups or disposable cutlery!) and would always favour Not on the Highstreet for something that I will keep for other birthday parties too.

I am relatively frugal when it come to these things and I also really like to make things. I always save glass jars to use them as vases or to put all sorts of things in them, so this time I tied some turquoise glitter string around the edges to put my wooden cutlery in them (I was going to tie them as per my Pinterest board but then I though that it's really impractical!)

Greta's cake topper is divine and I will be able to use it for many years to come. I got it from www.notonthehighstreet.com and they are £5 each.

Last year I was really fussy about food and I now realise everything was so boringly healthy.. poor Greta! So this year I'm throwing all my good principles away for a day and there will be pizza, popcorn, mini ice creams and cakes only!

I loved this idea and decided to reproduce it exactly. I discovered Peach and Blossom party supplies last year and got some miniature milk bottles and gold straws from them.

Come back on Friday to see how my cake turned out, what was in the party bags and how my vision came together!
