pink + grey

I love pink but it can be a bit of a ricky colour to pull off. I find it works best worn as a colour accent to your outfit, my favourite combination is with grey tones which instantly gives it a cool-factor. Last night on the couch I created some virtual outfits using pink and grey using my favourite clothes from  my-wardrobe.com Here they are...

J.Crew top, America Apparel T-shirt, Banana Republic trousers, Miu Miu ballerinas
all available at my-wardrobe.com

A) Jumper IRO £278, Trousers Preen £608, Bag Mulberry £875
B) T-Shirt James Perse £48, Skirt Pren £780, Bracelet Amaya £45
C) Sweater Philip Lim £510, Ballerinas Bloch £70, Jacket DG £769
D) Coat DKNY £587, Dress Philip Lim £675, Shoes DVF £141

Love your sweater! It's a pity that JCrew is not yet shipping to Italy...

Why don't you ever wear something REALLY elegant?
Sartorial touch and fabrics with quality, I mean. Blazers, silk blouses, silk dresses... Always such shabby t-shirts, they don't give you anything, they don't say anything.
Moreover, the trick of matching cheap clothes with expensive accessories doesn't work anymore. It could work for Zara, H&M etc to raise their sales (and for mainstream magazines, like yours, that live on the advertisement paid by them), but it doesn't work for people who want to be really elegant.

I like this combo! I have a bright pink silk tee that I just got from Reiss and have been wearing it with denim, now I must try it with grey :)

I totally disagree with the anonymous. First of all: have you seen the pics of Laura´s wedding?? Extremely elegant in both outfits.
Second: in every day of life, when you have a demanding job you cannot always wear silk,etc.. as it can be impractical (especially if you are shooting outside and it´s cold!). Third: even if she wears TShirts, Laura still manages to look chic by accessorising them with very elegant accessories (shoes/statement necklaces). Compared to what you can see around London every day, she always manages to look polished.
Zara, H&M, Cos all have a very nice selection of elegant clothes too and just because it´s high street , it doesn´t mean that it cannot be elegant.
Laura´s looks inspire me in my everyday life and they are very wearable and suitable for real women! Grazie Laura ,) Ilaria

Gosh, I am so addicted to your blog!

I'm desperately trying to downsize my closet - could you do a blog post on your tips for the basics or a capsule wardrobe pse?

Thanks!

Anonymous - you obviously don't live in our world - no need to be so rude either. We are in a recession after all and it's good to mix high street in these times. Ciao ciao! Go and look at some silk blogs.
Laura you inspire everyday girls and I'm always stealing your look. You also help me put together outfits I already have. Keep on it girl.

In response to the anonoymous blog - they obviously haven't been following you for long or they would know that you often wear tailored jackets/ blazers and luxurious fabrics. I have this jcrew top and it's cashmere. I totally agree with Ilaria - silk dresses aren't practical for many peoples day to day lives and cost a fortune to dry-clean. I love that you mix designer with high street - it makes it affordable. I follow lots of fashion blogs and yours is the only one that provides a look that translates to my lifestyle and doesn't cost the earth - hence it's my favourite! I love Red magazine and you always look chic Laura. Don't go changing!

So rude! If she does not like what you wear then she does not have to look! I think you dress perfectly for the lives that most modern girls have and your ideas can usually be translated into most peoples wardrobes. I can not see myself doing the school run in a silk dress but the pink and grey combo has got me thinking....

Girls, tank you for all your comments! As a general rule I like to publish all constructive comments, positive or negative unless they are rude or offensive. As I found the anonymous comment borderline rude I was tempted not to publish it but then I thought I was more interested to hear your own response to it. I am glad to see that most of you see WIT for what it is: a bit of inspiration from inside a fashion editors working wardrobe. My response to the anonymous comment is that if the everyday looks on WIT are repeatedly not of your liking you don't have to refer to it. I can suggest other blogs that would be more to your
liking. Good luck and thanks for checking WIT out.

It is not a matter of price, luxe, designers, it is a matter of style and quality. Is it reasonable to spend a fortune in a Chanel bag when you dress shabbily every day? In my opinion, it isn't.

What I am the most surprised at, is that Mrs Laura pretends to teach to dress in a way everyone is already able to. Nothing new, nothing original, nothing to be taught. Open a catalogue by Zara and you'll find tons of models dressed like her.

Start rather reading Vogue Paris or Vogue Italia and, among the blogs, the Sartorialist: you will find much more inspiration.

Sure that a single negative comment is by far more useful than one hundred positive ones, I am glad to check out.

My friend,i think you are ince again missing the point. WIT is not trying to be being groundbreaking, it's trying to be REAL. There are a number of blogs and magazines that cater for different life styles and a different type of woman - that is the principle behind knowing your reader. I love French Vogue and the Sarorialist (not Italian Vigue) but it doesn't serve as practical and affordable inspiration for my everyday life as it doesn't for the mums, teachers, marketing directors and office based women that read my blog. I think we've established that you are not my target reader so again, I suggest you look elsewhere but thank you for stopping by. Oh, one more thing - I am the fashion and shopping editor of the Best Consumer magazine of the year, what do you do?

Just one word:great!you're an inner elegant person, even if you've got to manage with rude people who pretent to GLOBALIZE the concept of new, classy and "visionaire" REDUCING it at the sartolialist or vogue readings..and I also think your blog do frequently answers to everiday's basics questions. It SEEMS simple..Go on Laura!Ciao

I love your last line Laura which totally sums it up. As cliche as it sounds, this person is no doubt very jealous of you and your career and is probably bitter that she is sat doing a job she hates everyday and only dreaming of your life. As this person has wrote a couple of messages now, they clearly keep reading your blog which I find very strange for someone who seems to dislike it so much. I find it quite amusing that they have nothing better to do than leave negative comments - if you don't like it, just don't read it.

I read your blog everyday and I also read Vogue, Elle and various other blogs. I love all of them but your blog provides the best inspiration of all as, like you say, it is real.

I don't comment often on here but I was compelled to write on this occassion.

Keep up the amazing work and, by the way, I would love her to point out even ONE occassion when you have dressed sabby!!

All the best, Aimee x
