Monday morning pick me up: Great buys UNDER £50

This post is dedicated to my little sis Vittoria, she loves WIT but often tells me off because things I feature are too expensive. Despite the fact that she's a student, in her early twenties and prefers "quantity to quality" (not a WIT trait), I accepted her challenge and found seven really desirable items and their under £50 equivalent. I love these items so much that two of them even made it in this week's "Star buys" section. I've also had a little fun of my own adding up the two potential wardrobes: the "Cheap Thrill" adding up to £212.99 and the "££" adding up to a whopping £5,563! I'm sold on the cheapies I'm afraid..

1) Dorothy Perkins Black gem cable jumper £35 or J.Crew Jeweled chandelier sweatshirt £168

2) New Look Black Leather Cross Strap Cut Out Ankle Boots £44.99 or Tabitha Simmons Early leather ankle boots £770

3) Top Shop Relaxed Pencil Skirt £40 or Lanvin Leather pencil skirt £1,390

4) Accessorize Aristotle Statement Alice Band £17 or Dolce & Gabbana Embellished velvet headband £910

5) Accessorize Leopard Print Studded Oversize Clutch £22 or Lanvin Leopard-print calf hair and textured-leather clutch £805

6) Whistles Petal BroderieTop  £40  or Chloé Crochet-wool and crepe top £1,440

7) Top Shop Spike Drop Earrings £14  or  J.Crew Collage crystal drop earrings £80

I love this article. I often read your things and wish you'd got a ££ and £ alternative. I'm a SAHM and most of my allowance goes on diddidance classes and Petit bateau, whilst I long to be more stylish I struggle to justify that percentage of my £s on myself/sometimes just one item...
Thanks again x

I recently asked you which would be the better buy for an everyday Jimmy Choo shoe ( :)) 65 or 35 mm, and you kind of answered me, in the most cool way, on a recent post "kitten heels are the most comfortable heel there is", so today my question is , how about some cool chelsea boots, i´m loving the McQ Slash Elastic Chelsea Boot and thinking of buying them:) Which one is your favorite Chelsea boot?

Thank you so much for all the inspiration and beauty you share with us

Brilliant post Laura, I love this sort of thing and doesn't it make you think? ( and squirm a bit.) Personally I think the cheap thrills are pretty darn good and I prefer most of them to the rather expensive alternatives. However, being a fickle woman, I wouldn't say no if anyone was offering. H x

Good idea! I'm always on a limited budget, like your sister, even if i'm not in my early twenties... I hope you often repeat this fashion game :)))

Great post Laura - we should thank your little sister! I like the skirt and broderie top. Whoever commented on the alice band - hilarious - I haven't worn one of those since I was 12! Great post for a monday!

Girls just wanted to say that I've found a good replacement for the sold out Whistles top - not quite as good but a very similar style.. and still under £50 so take a look at the new star buy. Thank you for following WIT and leaving comments I always LOVE hearing what you say xx

LOVE this post--love all your posts where you show the affordable equivalent to something totally desirable. Both chic, both stylish, but one more accessible to the majority of people! LOVE your website, love your newsletter... your looks inspire me every day! xoxo

Great post! I love comparison posts and as a lowly copywriter it's great to see some items on here that fit my budget :)

Good post. Your sister is right that you do post a lot of high end things. It would be nice to have more posts like this with things that are not out of the reach of the majority of people.
