Summer holiday special - holiday read (part 2)

Part two of my "Holiday Read" summer special week with more from July's Red shopping pages. I had so much fun compiling this feature, I wanted it to be a comprehensive guide on all the best classic and update pieces you can pack for your summer holiday. I spent hours editing down to just the very best and thinking of ways you could make the most of these buys. There's the classic holiday pieces, ways to update a beach cober-up from day to night and even what nail polish to pair with your new flat sandals! I hope you enjoy looking thorugh it (and shopping) as much as I did putting this together.

On this page: an alternative beach cover-up is to wear a cable knit cotton top like the white Reiss one I featured above- wear it with low slung or even high waist bikini briefs and doubles up as a jumper for chilly evenings. Tres chic! 

I also really love this J.Crew Cotton cable-knit sweater £80 - I would buy I size up for a casual fit.

 

My favourite tip on this page is the fab sandals edit (all high street and all super reasonably priced) and the polish to wear them with. I asked the beauty assistant to help me with this, she opened the doors to the beauty cupboard which is an absolute heaven and I got to choose the polishes I loved from a huge box of lacquers. so much fun.

Another pair I love (and I've just ordered) are these Top Shop FELIX Silver Glitter Sandals £40.00 it was a struggle to decide weather to go for silver or gold, but opted for silver in the end.

I don't know if you know this, but Red magazine also has an online shop called RedDirect www.reddirect.co.uk - it sells the cutest little jewellery and I fell in love with this Pink Powder evil eye bracelet £39 which also comes in navy. Wear at the beginning of the summer and layer up with even more.

Summer holiday special - holiday read (part 1)

Guess what my holiday read is on the beach? Well RED, of course! I don't really read my section as I finally get a chance to catch up on the rest of the magazine: I loved my colleagues Nicola Rose's pink main fashion shoot in Barbados, Alex Stedman's page on travelling on a budget in Berlin, Mary Norden's food section and the beauty editor's tips on the perfect DIY pedicure. I also always love reading my editor Sam Baker editor's letter, I always get a little excited when she mentions me - not this month ;-) If you get a chance take a look at my Red Shops "Holiday Special" in the July section: lots of juicy buys, my new WIT-style page on packing like a pro and much more!

Some of my  of my tips this month:

  Pre-pack your sunscreen essentials in a waterproof case, this way when you arrive all you have to do is dump it in your beach bag and you're sure not to have forgotten anything. 

Have a pedicure at www.blissworld.co.uk  and pack Seche Vite to freshen up your polish throughout your holiday

Summer holiday special: Retro is chic

I have a thing for the 1960's: Jackie O', big pants and Polaroid cameras, so it only makes sense that I love packing a holiday suitcase with a hint of a retro vibe. Continuing a holiday spirit week on WIT this week I thought I would show you some of my favourite must-buys:

1. An oversize white shirt: wear open with a swimsuit underneath or belted for lunch on your yacht ;-)
2. High waist shorts: use them as a beach cover up and wear with a colourful bikini top and big sunnies.
3. Big sunnies: make them colourful for a bit of beach fun, I love this red pair from Top Shop.
4. Tan flat sandals: you don't have to get down to Capri to bag a  great pair, this classic style goes with everything and you can find it in Oasis too.
5. Beach hair: get the perfect beach hair look with this new product I've just discovered, it basically salty water that gives you that gorgeous out-of-the-sea tousled look.
6. A big pant bikini: I've never been able to wear one but gosh I would love to. One pieces that are cut hipster like are easier to master.

Summer holiday special - The Little White Dress

I packed an all-white wardrobe on my honey moon and wore a very special white dress exactly a year ago... it's my one year wedding anniversary today, so a little white dress post couldn't be more perfect ;-)

Tonight I'm wearing an all-time favourite of mine, a little white shift dress I got from Melissa Odabash years ago that I always pack on a summer holiday. It is a simple sleeveless tunic with large white jewels on it. I would always suggest to pack a fab something white on holiday because a week or so into the holiday it looks great when I'm starting to build up a tan. This French Connection dress is in store now and very similar in shape and style to mine.

Great holiday buys countown: N5 The Summer Sandal

It's holiday season and it got me thinking: what are those chic, gorgeous, must-haves we should all posses when packing for a beach holiday? In the next seven days comes my countdown of fabulous no-regret buys. Fifth up, the summer sandal.

You can't go on holiday without a great pair of flat sandals. Make them leather, strappy and in a fun bright colour too! This year I love my Chanel pair, red ads a  pop colour to a summer suitcase made of crisp whites, preppy stripes and navy or blacks. Remember my rule when packing: make dressing easy and pack less by sticking to a colour palette, make it tonal so that everything goes with anything.
