Despite most of my Italian friends thinking I'm mad, I love the Great British country and sea side: I don't mind walking in the rain with by wellies on and splashing about, I love taking a hot bath and then wearing six layers on clothing to keep the warmth, and I can't get enough of full English breakfasts, roast lunches and cream teas. You can't expect the weather of the Maldives in the UK and the trick is to be prepared for cold at all times, however it's a cosy and regenerating experience. I try to get away from London as much as I can and this Bank Holiday week end I headed to Camber Sands beach, close to Rue in Sussex. Here's a little photographic account of my week end and some of my local suggestions.
On the map... RYE, EAST SUSSEX, UK
Where I stayed... THE GALLIVANT HOTEL lovely boutique hotel, rooms a bit small but perfect location for a morning walk on the beach http://thegallivanthotel.com/
Where I dined... THE GEORGE, RYE yummy food and right in the middle of Rye that is the cutest picturesque town near by http://www.thegeorgeinrye.com/
Traditional cream tea... Just about anywhere really!
Walks on the beach... CAMBER SANDS
Where I shopped... RYE ANTIQUES MARKET for vintage furniture, glass wear old jewellery and all things antiquey. Loved it and spent a good couple of hours there.
For surreal landscapes... DUNGENESS can't describe it anything more than surreal!
